History and location of Sorrento
Sorrento is believed to be the first European settlement in Victoria discovered in 1803. George Coppin developed the area as a tourist destination for the rich and famous during the 1870’s. You’ll find some of the oldest and highest limestone buildings in Australia, in this historic township on the Mornington Peninsula. Only 90 minutes from the Melbourne CBD, it’s a relaxing weekend getaway for people who reside in Melbourne.
How to get to Sorrento
From the Melbourne CBD to Sorrento it takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, and is a total of 108 km.
If you are travelling by public transport, you’ll have to catch a train to Frankston Railway Station and then change to a bus which will take you to Sorrento.
A more scenic way of getting to Sorrento is catching the ferry from Queenscliff. The journey takes 40 minutes and you’ll see some spectacular coastal scenery and if you’re lucky, even spot a dolphin!
