How do you get to McCrae from Melbourne?

If you want a seaside drive, from the CBD it takes approximately 1 hour along the freeway or 2 hours along the Victorian coast via State Route 33. The quicker option would be to transition from the M1 in Southbank to the Mornington Peninsula Fwy/M11 for the rest of the trip.

For public transport, take a train from Flinders St Station to Frankston, at which point there are buses such as the 781 or 877 that go to McCrae. The whole trip takes approximately 2 hours and 30 mins.

McCrae Beach

The Mornington Peninsula has beautiful calm foreshore beaches as well as rugged ocean beaches, there’s something for everyone. The McCrae Beach is perfect for families and swimming, and ideal for water sport activities like kayaking, sailing, wind surfing etc. The beach has calm and crystal clear water and soft sand, while the rugged cliffs overlooking the beach provide picturesque coastal views, making this spot a relaxing holiday for families.

McCrae Homestead

This modest homestead houses a comprehensively curated museum and gallery with expert-led tours that shed light on the history of Victoria’s early settlement. The homestead itself is the oldest in Victoria, and has been lovingly maintained in order to preserve its fascinating history.

McCrae Lighthouse

The McCrae lighthouse was constructed in England in 1874, and then brought to Victoria in order to replace the previous lighthouse, which was a structure made of timber. This lighthouse aided ships along Port Phillip until it was decommissioned in 1994. To this day, it still remains as a testament to the rich history of Victoria.

There is a gorgeous playground near the lighthouse, ideal for families to enjoy a picnic and some fun together.

Arthurs Seat on the Mornington Peninsula features a summit of 341 metres in height that provides a picturesque view of the Melbourne city skyline, Port Phillip Bay, the You Yangs and Mount Macedon.
